Brainwashing

This is definitely wrong. The lack of civil rights for people of color (or any other meaningless distinction outside of behavior) is wrong and we, as a compassionate race, should not stand for it.
However, these people were likely raised to believe that blacks were different. There were rules. Laws. They were taught that there was a “right” and a “wrong” and segregation was “right.”

Believing that everything you’ve been taught is wrong and forging a new path of your own design where none exists is not that easy for social creatures such as ourselves. Like with the gun control debate, it is often pointed out that the “good guy” and the “bad guy” might not be so easy to identify when things go down. Things aren’t always as they appear. If you break the rules, you are a bad guy.

So the guys in this photo believed they were doing the right thing by trying to get this man to leave this counter. I am IN NO WAY saying that they are right and that segregation is okay. I am simply saying that, when we’ve been told all our lives what is right and wrong, we think we’re doing the right thing by standing up for what we’ve been taught is “right.”

We don’t always know why the laws and rules are what they are. Some of us are even told not to question authority. It is historically the most noble and bold and wise people who stand up to “authority” and change the laws. The changing of laws is “progress.” Therefore, the people who want to change the laws are “progressive.” The people who want the laws to stay how they are, or to change laws back to the way they were,  are not progressive. They are, therefore, ‘regressive.’
The whole concept of “Make America Great Again” is a regressive idea. Things were not necessarily better before.

I repeatedly hear the Second Amendment defenders saying what appears to be the "canned" catchphrases provided by the NRA, while gun control supporters consistently come up with additional facts and reasoning based on continuing circumstances. It's not the same phrase blanketing all arguments, it's new, original arguments from varied perspectives. The gun rights people get the script and spew the lies like buckshot in every direction. I don't like to use the term "brainwashing" but that's a very convincing label for what is happening on the right.
